Why most lanyards are polyester
It is smooth enough for a sharp silkscreen print, receptive enough for dye sublimation, and strong enough that a reel or a heavy badge does not stretch it out of shape. It also resists fading, which matters when a batch has to look consistent across a year of onboarding rather than a single weekend.
Alternatives worth considering
Cotton feels softer and reads as more natural, but colors sit duller and it takes fine detail less cleanly. Nylon is glossier and slicker. Recycled RPET looks and behaves almost identically to virgin polyester and is the straightforward choice if you have a sustainability commitment to meet.
