Choosing a lanyard width

Width decides how much of your logo people can actually read. 3/8″ and 1/2″ suit short text or a wordmark and keep the unit cost lowest for large giveaways. 5/8″ is the most common choice for conferences and staff badges — enough room for a logo plus a tagline. 3/4″ and 1″ give you a full-color graphic that reads across a room, and they sit more comfortably under a lanyard-and-reel combination.

Decoration methods

Silkscreen prints one or two spot colors directly onto the webbing — the lowest cost per piece and the fastest turnaround. Dye sublimation pushes ink into the fibers, so gradients, photos and full-color artwork stay sharp and the print does not crack with use. Woven lanyards have the design threaded into the material itself; the finish is textured and premium, and it will outlast the event. If your artwork has more than two colors, dye sublimation is normally the right answer.

Attachments and safety releases

A bulldog clip grips a punched badge and is the workhorse for conferences. A swivel hook or lobster claw rotates so the badge always faces forward. A split ring turns the lanyard into a key holder. Add a breakaway safety release wherever the lanyard is worn near equipment, in a classroom or on a production floor. The connector separates under load instead of pulling on the wearer’s neck, and many schools and hospitals require it.
